DETAILS OF POSITION |
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
· Evaluation and testing of products, including software enhancements, upgrades and bug fixes to ensure they meet operational and requirements specifications and quality standards. · Development of new products, techniques, systems or processes as may be required for service delivery. · Developing innovative methods to increase the utility of existing products and processes. · Working with suppliers to troubleshoot, log, manage and resolve issues. · Effective documentation of findings, including accurately writing up findings. · Creating documentation for new products. (User and Technical) · Planning and conducting Lab and field-testing to investigate, analyze and identify the root cause and find solutions to complex problems. · Developing specialist skills, building and maintaining in-depth technical knowledge on a range of products, systems and technologies. · Assisting with the integration of new products and systems with other operational and commercial areas, including operations, installations, customer services, sales, legal and regulatory, marketing. · Support the launch of new services by supporting Sales in answering ‘non-standard’ customer queries, finding solutions to unique customer requirements and supporting customer demonstrations. · Vendor Management. · New Product Induction Management. · Training of Technical, Support and Sales Staff on new products. · Pre/Post- Sales Support. · Monthly Reporting
Deliverables are: · Specification, execution of test plans and documenting outcomes. · Resolution of issues and problems escalated and identified in testing. · Supplying insight to complex problems. · Submission of equipment type approval applications and driving the process to conclusion. · Solutions/Architectures/Designs for new services and customer solutions. · Identifying training and development needs; Support the development and documentation of installation, configuration and support/troubleshooting manuals. · Performing Quality Assurance checks on request. · Assist with implementation of corrective measures to improve effectiveness. · Building Vox’ knowledge capital through continuous learning to maintain appropriate technical and product expertise. |
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES & ATTRIBUTES |

QUAILIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE |
Basic · 1 Years with B.Eng, B.Sc (IT, Computer Science, Electronics); or 5 years experience within a Service Provider environment. · Experience with network, database, and operating system monitoring, troubleshooting, analysis, and investigation. · Knowledge of and experience in the design, implementation, operations and maintenance of VoIP platforms and networks. · Excellent understanding and working experience of PBX features and functionality; IP Centrex/Hosted PBX; SIP based solutions; SIP phones brands such as Polycom Yealink; VoIP Gateways; use of API’s. · Knowledge of and experience in the operations and maintenance of Operations and Business Support Systems used in the delivery and support of modern telecommunications networks and services. · Experience with application high availability and replication. · Experience administering and supporting development, test, and production environments. · Experience with securing networks and applications from intrusion and denial of service attacks. · Experience in using diagnostic tools, such as Wireshark. · Experience with device auto-provisioning concepts. · Experience in defining and creating operational processes. · Good presentation skills. · Good training skills.
Preferred · Knowledge and experience in dimensioning, configuring, installing, operating, maintaining, supporting: a) IP Networks implemented using products from Juniper, Extreme, Mikrotik, Fortinet. b) Telephony Softswitches and rating/billing platforms such as PortaSwitch, Metaswitch, Broadsoft, PortaBilling. c) A range of IP PBX and VoIP products from vendors such as Farsouth, Grandstream, Alcatel Lucent, NET/Sonus, ACME/Oracle, Sangoma, Polycom, Lifesize, Huawei, etc. d) VoIP and Video services over a range of last mile access technologies and services from a wide range of South African connectivity providers such as Telkom, Neotel, Broadlink, etc. e) Databases (Oracle, MYSQL). f) VSAT voice and data (iDirect, Hughes) on Ku and Ka. g) Microwave wireless communications systems. h) Fibre networks and products. i) DMR/Tetra 2-way radio network operations and products. j) Consumer and Enterprise WiFi solutions. k) Servers running Ubuntu and Redhat Linux · Experience in CPE device auto-provisioning via TR.069 or configuration file download over TFTP, (S)FTH, HTTP(S). Specifically around routers (Mikrotik, Huawei, Cisco, Zyxel) and SIP phones (Gigaset, Polycom, Yealink, Grandstream). · Ability to program in the following languages: C, C++, Python, Javascript, LUA. · Experience with the development of mobile apps for Android and iOS. · Experience in Compiling, Configuring, operating and maintaining systems based a wide range open-source projects such as Freeswitch, Asterisk, SIPP, Kamailio, OpenLDAP, FreeRADIUS, Django, etc. · Experience with creation and maintenance of standards and policies. · Experience with backup and recovery. · Experience with DB query analysis and performance tuning. · Training Certifications (Cisco CCNA, JNCIA or better). · Experience with creation and maintenance of standards and policies. |
